Goethe-School has a new annex with 12 rooms for Biology, Physics and Chemistry and Computer Sciences. In this modern furnished and structured rooms the learning-atmosphere is very nice.

(El anejo de las Ciencias Naturales del Instituto Goethe. Para financiarlo la escuela pudo reunir más de un millón de euros por donativos)

The history of the annex

Not many years ago some pupils of Goethe-school had to learn in run-down containers. It was very hard to concentrate in class because of the bad atmosphere. The rooms were very small and after five minutes at the beginning of the lessons they were very smelly. So Goethe-School asked the government of Essen for a new building. Then the government of Essen made an announcement to several firms of architects. Just one suggestion was chosen and so in 2002 the government of Essen decided to subsidize a part of the costs for a new natural sciences extension building of Goethe-School. They decided to take over half of the costs for the new building. So the school had to raise the rest of the money. Everybody knew it would be a hard challenge to raise all the money but they knew it would be a good investment for the future of the children. To get as much money (about 1.2 million €) the school started some charity-events in order to get money for the extension.

In the end the school raised all the money and so the construction of the building was started in the beginning of 2004. It was a difficult project to plan and build the new extension because the old building is under monumental protection.

The building was finished in July of 2005.
