Goethe-School in Essen-Bredeney offers pupils, who are interested in music, the possibility to live for their musical hobbies.
The choir and the orchestra often work together to prepare big concerts. Goethe-School has its own big assembly hall, where the concerts are held. There the orchestra and the choir also perform for special events such as Christmas or the beginning of summer vacation.
Teachers
Mrs. Zywietz-Godland (choir) and Mr. Haucke (orchestra) work hand in hand to produce music at its highest level.
Mrs. Zywietz-Godland, a brilliant conductor and also a singer herself, not only performs classical but also modern and foreign songs with the choir.
Her counterpart, Mr. Haucke, the orchestra conductor, who was honoured with the “Bundesverdienstkreuz”, a rewards given for great achievements for Germany, sometimes works till midnight to compose interesting pieces for his orchestra.
Choir
The choir, a 20-year-old institution, can recall over 200 concerts in which over 1000 singers participated. The choir builds up character, discipline and musical abilities. 50-70 singers from grades 7-13 are taught accuracy in language and work hard to sing in tune.
Orchestra
Founded in the summer of 1972 (with only a few violins, a cello, a trumpet and a flute), the orchestra today has over 180 members playing all kinds of instruments. With this full orchestra it is possible to play more challenging pieces such as Beethovens 5th Symphony and Dvoráks 9th Symphony.
With the selling of concert recordings, the orchestra and the choir helps charity organisations.
