At Goethe-School you can learn many languages.
In grade 5 you can choose between English and a combination of English and Latin as your first foreign language. If you have started with Latin you have to take English in grade 6. But if you started with English you can choose between Latin and French in grade 6.
In grade 9 you have to choose between four combined courses (in Germany it is called “Differenzierungskurs“).

- Computer science
- Chemistry-Maths, Biology
If you choose Latin as your first foreign language you get your Latin degree (German .:“Latinum“) after grade 10 if you finish it with a D. But if you choose Latin in grade 7 you get you Latin degree not until grade 11.
In the higher grades you can choose two new languages, Spanish and Italian.
Cooperations with schools in foreign countries

- Ombrosa-Lycèe (France)
- Collége du Sud (Switzerland)
Assistant for foreign languages
Every year we get an assistant for foreign languages from a different country. This year it is a woman from Sevilla/Spain, Miss Mata Rodriguez. She helps the pupils with pronunciation and gives them a view into the Spanish culture.
Language club in the afternoon
If you do not choose French or Spanish you can also join a foreign language club in the afternoon.
Foreign stays in grade 11
Particularly in grade 11 foreign contacts are intensified. Nearly one third of all pupils are some months abroad. Who would like to spend even a whole year abroad, must have got an excellent report in grade 10.
E-mail project
A special E-Mail project is accomplished by pupils of the 10th classes with French pupils of the “Lycée Jean Perrin” in Lambersart. The highlight thereby will be a meeting of the pupils involved in Lille.
Language tests and competitions
All pupils are offered internationally recognized language tests in English and French. The tests give pupils a chance to show their skills on a certified document. Thus Goethe pupils occupied in the last year the 5. Place under 40 participating schools at the European “Maths-competition” of the University of Maastricht, which shows the existing of foreign contacts also in other subjects.
